‘Jackie introduced itself to itself to its female readership in January 1964 which was only two months following the death of the American president John F Kennedy and some believe that the comic may have derived its name from the name of president’s wife, the first lady, Jackie Kennedy.

Jackie was extremely popular with girls and it would often produce special editions for pop stars such as David Cassidy. Jackie was published using a mixture of fashion and beauty tips, gossip and short stories, Jackie was popular schoolgirl fayre. The centre spread usually focused on popular singers and film stars. Unlike the boys’ comics, Jackie had a “Cathy and Claire” problem page which was extremely popular with its readership.
