‘Flash Gordon’ made his first appearance on the 7th January 1934, when the comic strip appeared simultaneously in a number of American newspapers. The strip was entitled simply ‘Flash Gordon’. The strip was created by the artist Alex Raymond on behalf of ‘King Features Syndicate’ in order to compete with ‘Buck Rogers’.

The ‘Flash Gordon’ strip made its first UK appearance in British comics, when it was published on the back cover of ‘Modern Wonder The Pictorial Review’ issue number 105, dated 20th May 1939. The publication was previously known as just ‘Modern Wonder’.
‘Flash Gordon Space Age Comic’ first issue was published on the 1st June 1960 and it ran for six issues, which were published bi-monthly.
