Ace Malloy

Issue number one of ‘Ace Malloy of the Special Squadron’ bore the number fifty. This was thought to be a ploy to convince readers and newsagents that the publication was a long running one and therefore successful.
Mick Anglo AKA Maurice Anglowitz was not only the scriptwriter but was also the primary artist along with Kirk Logan, Denis Gifford and a number of freelance artists. Mick Anglo is best known for his creation of ‘Marvelman’ which later became ‘Miracleman.’
The comic was based around the RAF exploits of Ace Malloy set during the second world war and ran for seventeen monthly issues. By the end of its short run, the comic was called just ‘Ace Malloy’ having dropped the ‘Special Squadron’ part of the title.
