Issue number one of ‘The Big Comic’ introduced the adventures of ‘Gay Gus’ and ‘Shrimp’ (H. O’Neil) which was the story of two friends, one tall and one short. The pair got into many scrapes and with the outbreak of the World War One they were conscripted in to the army where they were launched on an unsuspecting German army. Other stars of ‘The Big Comic’ included ‘Lemon and Dash’ (Louise Briault) who had previously appeared in ‘Sparks’ comic.
