With falling sales in both their ‘Princess’ and ‘Tina’ comics, Fleetway decided to fold them into one comic called ‘Princess Tina’. The normal convention was that the lead title would be the continuation of that comic and the secondary title would drop away after a couple of months. However, in this case, the intention was that the comic would be ‘Princess Tina’ for the long run. Ironically, six years later, this did actually happen as you will see below.
During the comic’s run, it absorbed ‘Lady Penelope’ which by the time of the merger had become just ‘Penelope’. The title continued as ‘Princess Tina and Penelope’ until ‘Penelope’ was dropped from the title in the 6th June 1970 issue, reverting back to ‘Princess Tina’.
‘Princess Tina’ comic technically came to an end in January 1973 when it became ‘Tina’ comic. This makes the history of ‘Tina’ comic complicated. The comic ‘Princess Tina’ / ‘Tina’ finally came to an end with its 12th January 1974 issue. The following week it was absorbed into ‘Pink’ magazine. The ‘Tina’ name finally disappeared on the 14th June 1980. On the 21st June 1980 ‘Pink’ merged with ‘Mates’ to become ‘Mates and Pink’. ‘Tina’ was no more. ‘Tina’ and ‘Princess’ have separate entries on this site due to the complex naming conventions.
