Blakes 7 or to give it its full title ‘Blakes 7: A Marvel Monthly’ was based on the popular television series of the same name. There appears to be some confusion around the naming convention. Both the comic and the television series are referred to as Blakes 7, Blake’s 7, sometimes Blakes Seven or even Blake’s Seven.
Blake’s 7 was created by Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks of ‘Doctor Who’ fame. As a writer, he also contributed scripts for cult classic television shows such as ‘The Avengers’, ‘The Saint’, ‘The Persuaders!’, and ‘The Champions’. Later in his carreer, he also wrote for the television series MacGyver.
The comic was an officially licensed tie-in with the BBC television series. The television show ended on the 21st December 1981 shortly after the comic had launched. Much of the content featured interviews with cast members and behind the scenes information. The comic came to an end after only 23 issues.
