It would appear that the name of the comic may be reference to the actress Marilyn Monroe who by 1955, was one of the most famous film stars in the world.
Some sources have suggested that the last issue of Marilyn comic was dated 18th November 1965. However, if you see the image below, Marilyn comic was already incorporated into Valentine comic before this date.
