The Schoolgirl story paper was initially published by Shurey’s Publications Ltd. The first series ran between 21st February 1922 and the 13th March 1923.
Following the closure of The School Friend story paper, The Schoolgirl was relaunched by Amalgamated Press continuing the stories of The School Friend. Stories in the publication centred around the inhabitants of Cliff House School. The school, a female version of Greyfriars school, the fictional school in The Magnet story paper. Whilst Greyfriars was famous for Billy Bunter, Cliff House School was famous for the sister of Billy Bunter, Bessie Bunter. All the creation of Charles Hamilton whose pen name was Frank Richards.
