‘Twinkle’, ‘The Picture Paper Especially For Little Girls’ first issue included ‘Nancy’, ‘Betty Bright’, ‘Sue of the Children’s Zoo’, ‘Sally Sweet of Sunshine Street’, ‘Wendy of Willowtree Farm’, ‘Patsy Panda’ and ‘The Three Pennys’. The star of the comic however was Twinkle herself.
Twinkle was one of the comics chosen when the Royal Mail issued a special stamp collection to celebrate the history of British comics. The Royal Mail collection included The Beano, The Dandy, The Eagle, The Topper, Roy of the Rovers, Bunty, Buster, Valiant, Twinkle and 2000 AD.
As well as the featured stories, there was also a readers’ letters page, competitions and also a regular feature was a cut out picture of a doll which you could dress each week with different outfits that you would also cut out. Twinkle produced an impressive 1612 issues coming to and end in 1999. During its time, it managed to re-brand itself numerous times but eventually all good things come to an end.
